OWise was the first cancer app to be used as a case study example in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) evidence standard framework for digital health technologies. It was created to evaluate the effectiveness and economic impact of digital health technologies on the UK health and care system. NICE developed it between June 2018 and February 2019 in collaboration with NHS England, Public Health England and MedCity.
The case studies were selected to illustrate most of the combinations of tiers of evidence and functional classifications as described in the NICE framework. In the report, the studies are ordered from evidence Tier 1 to Tier 3b.
